In-Person Interview Optimization

Extended Flo Recruit’s Pre-Select Interview Management platform to support both in-person and virtual interviews in one flexible scheduling workflow.

Project Overview

Flo Recruit’s Pre-Select Interview Management platform helps law schools, employers, and students coordinate legal recruiting programs in one workflow. As recruiting shifted back toward in-person events, we extended the existing virtual-first experience to support hybrid interview programs without creating a separate system.

My work focused on program settings, employer interview preferences, custom locations, scheduling tools, reporting, live dashboards, and email notifications.

Design Challenge

During my first 30 days at Flo Recruit, I was tasked with designing a fast, lightweight solution to support in-person interviews within the existing Pre-Select Interview Management platform. After years of virtual-first recruiting, law schools and employers were returning to in-person formats, creating new operational needs the platform did not yet support.

The timeline was tight. Flo Recruit had an upcoming law school summit within the same month with several top law schools, and Product wanted a prototype ready to introduce the concept, gather feedback, and prepare for the next recruiting season.

The challenge was to extend an interview management experience originally optimized for virtual interviews to support in-person interviews as well. My goal was to quickly understand the problem space, extend the existing workflow, and create a prototype that could validate the direction with customers and internal stakeholders.

Discovery & Research

I quickly built context around legal recruiting, the Flo Recruit ecosystem, and existing Pre-Select workflows. With a prototype needed ahead of the law school summit, I focused discovery on the gap between the current virtual interview experience and the operational needs of in-person recruiting.

I reviewed scheduling and management workflows with the team to identify where the platform could be extended, where new states or actions were needed, and what needed to be validated with law school stakeholders.

Strategy

The strategy was to support in-person interviews without creating a separate workflow or adding unnecessary complexity.

A key product decision was to keep the experience flexible and admin-controlled. Schools could choose whether to allow employers to specify an interview type preference, while admins retained the ability to assign or adjust interview formats later in the scheduling process. This balanced employer input with the needs of schools managing complex recruiting events.

Solution

We translated the strategy into targeted updates across event setup, scheduling, visibility, reporting, and communications. The solution allowed schools to manage virtual and in-person interviews in one connected experience while giving admins flexibility to configure formats by program need.

  • Updated language throughout the platform to support in-person interviews

  • Admin controls for enabling in-person or virtual interview preferences

  • Employer selection of preferred interview type during job creation

  • Interview-type assignment at the time-block and individual time-slot level

  • Custom location support for in-person interviews

  • Live dashboards showing virtual, external, and in-person interview status

  • Updated reporting tables with interview format and location details

  • Clear schedule emails for students and employers

Results

  • Delivered a customer-ready prototype in time for the law school summit

  • Validated the concept with law school stakeholders, contributing to two new school contracts

  • Incorporated summit feedback and launched the updated experience in Q1 2024
